Although he physically resembles a human, as a Time Lord his physiology is different.
Like other members of his race, he has two hearts, he can go without breathing for a period of time, and has greater strength and stamina than humans.
When a Time Lord suffers a mortal injury, illness, or old age, they have the ability to regenerate which give them extremely long life spans.

The Doctor is a Time Lord, an extraterrestrial from the planet Gallifrey, who travels in a time machine called the TARDIS.
Sometimes he is accompanied by companions who have chosen to travel with him for a variety of reasons.

Doctor Who has had various companions who have chosen to travel with him for there own reason. Every Doctor has had companions, as many as 10(1st doctor, spread out through 4 season)
The Doctor’s lastest companion, Rose, is the first companion of the Doctors with a fully fleshes out life story that the audience gets to see from her debut story. She, unlike other companions, has not been cut off from her family or the world she knew.

Doctor Who travels in a time machine called the TARDIS--- Time And Relative Dimension (Dimensions) In Space.
With the TARDIS The Doctor can travel to any point in time and space.
The inside of the TARDIS is larger then the outside.
The TARDIS used to have the ability to disguise itself according to its environment around it, but in 1963 when it landed in London it became “stuck” in the form of a police box. The Doctor has given up trying to fix it, because he has grown fond of the police box shape.
Also the vessel’s navigation system is old and unreliable, which is why The Doctor explores the universe at random.

Police boxes started to appear in 1880. “Modern” police boxes, like the one in Doctor Who started to appear in 1920. A police box was a telephone for the use of members of the police. Police boxes were before two-way radios.
Police boxes have a telephone that is linked directly to the local police station, allowing officers to keep in contact with the station, reporting anything unusual, requesting help, or to detain prisoners until a vehicle could be sent. This was a time when the officers walked or rode bicycles rather than use a car.
There is light on the top of the box, which would flash to alert an officer that he should contact the station.
Members of the public could also use the phone, which was on the outside of the box, to call for help.

The title and the name of the main character of a classic British TV show. First aired in 1963 till it’s cancellation in 1989. Became a made for TV movie in 1996. And in 2005 a new series aired.
