In the system of the same name, the planet is located in the Atrivis sector in the Outer Rim. Mantooine's government treats spice smuggling as a capitol offense. Years ago, a group of Mantooine freedom fighters called the Liberators were massacred by the Empire when they took refuge in a captured Imperial base. That incident was one of several that helped build a unified Rebel Alliance, because if there had been communication with other groups of freedom fighters, the Liberators could have been warned of the strike and taken refuge elsewhere. In a separate incident, the self-sacrifice of probe droid D-127X may have saved Mantooine from an Imperial suprise attack.

Get the Houjixmug. A temperate planet covered by swaying asaari trees, it escaped most of the fallout of the Rebellion and the Empire's cruel reign because of its isolated location. It is inhabited by a species of short, half-furred, yellow-clad creatures called Bimms and governed by a planetary council. It was while on a diplomatic mission to the planet five years after the Battle of Endor that Princess Leia Organa Solo and Luke Skywalker were the target of a kidnap attempt by a Noghri commando team.
