From what I understand to be the most historically accurate, cracka is not a racial term in which describes the white dude out in the plantation fields cracking the whip. It was a term that was most likely introduced after the civil war ended and slavery was abolished. Due to the the big change in the southern workforce, African Americans were for the most part the only skilled laborers around. Which some of the more lower class whites could not find many lucrative jobs given there skill level. So it was more commonly used to call poor white people who basically had to go out and crack their own corn.
After 1886, there were a lot of poor crackas looking for work.
