Second-largest city in the United States, after New York City. Located in Southern California and home to about 9 million people in about 4 counties. One of the most (if not the most) diverse cities in the United States. The largest city in California and a major financial center for the Pacific Rim. Competes with New York City as the cultural capital of the United States; most movies and television shows are made in coordinated efforts between Los Angeles and New York, although most movie studios have their headquarters' in Los Angeles.
LA has about a billion suburbs that are essentially considered part of Los Angeles as a single city, although the city itself has only a population of some 3.7 million. Los Angeles is notorious for smog and gang-related crime; seperate inner-city working-class suburbs such as Compton or Long Beach have been made the subject of rap songs talking about the crime levels that have gained some notoriety and earned LA one of it's less-enviable titles as "the Gang Capital of the World".
Fortunately, the beautiful Pacific coastline and the numerous beaches and tropical climate offset some of the not-so-good parts of the city. LA also has an awesome music scene, a great clubbing sector, and countless appreciative cultural institutions such as the Getty Museum to visit that provide the city with a depth, culture and history that are enviable. It's an awesome city. Watch out for the traffic though.
Person who has never been to Los Angeles: Man LA is such a shithole, it has so much smog and traffic and gang-related crime
Me: Have you ever been there
Person who has never been to Los Angeles: No but I saw Training Day
Me: Die please
Metropolis; the biggest city in the United States and one of the biggest cities in the world. The financial and economic capital of the United States and the Western Hemisphere. Like any other city, whether its visible on the surface or not, there's crime, poverty and excess in New York City, alongside some of the wealthiest people in the world. It differs from other cities in the US in that the cityscape is more of a contiguous metropolis than Los Angeles, Boston or Chicago. Residents are (surprise surpise) very proud of their city; they have a reputation for being rude, arrogant and boisterous but it is a stereotype that doesn't hold true in every circumstance.
New Yorker: Yeah NYC is the greatest city in the entire fuckin' world and dont you fuggetit
Me: Yeah I was in New York City in 2003 and I was flying out of Newark and the sky above NYC was green
New Yorker: Yeah but its a real city
Me: K, whatever
The definition of ambiguity in trance and electronic music. He has been chosen "World's #1 DJ" two years in a row, and is the only DJ to ever give a solo stadium concert, which he did in May of 2003. He has done countless remixes and many compliation CDs (the best of which are his Magik and In Search of Sunrise cds), as well as an artist album "In My Memory".
Due to his massive popularity he is often used by newcomers to electronic dance music as a gateway to trance and EDM in general; also due to his massive popularity he is often reviled after these same newcomers want to feel more of a part of the community and rag on Tiesto. Veterans of the dance music scene also criticize him for the lack of quality in his latest productions and his average mixing skills of late, and for "selling out" to the masses.
Tiesto has shown undeniable skill in his productions such as Suburban Train, Flight 643, and Sparkles (among others), and in many of his remixes such as his "In Search of Sunrise" brand remix of Silence by Delerium. Many will continue to hate Tiesto (and its true that his latest work "Love Comes Again" with BT on vocals is terrible) but many will hate Tiesto for bullshit reasons. Listen to his old productions and his new works, and decide for yourself.
Magik 6, mixed by DJ Tiesto live, is one of the best trance mixes available.
Yahel - Going Up (Magikal Remake) is one of DJ Tiesto's best remixes.
Suburban Train by DJ Tiesto is incredible to hear live.
totally cool, the ultimate in awesomness and purity of coolness - the opposite of baumer
Jeff: TA is so fucking cool
Tom: No man...its fucking biased
