An Olby is a unit of measurement dating back to the ancient Egyptians. One Olby is equal to approximately three inches in today's measurement. The Olby measuring device was a small stick about equal to the length of seven grains of standard rice. The Olby measuring stick was mostly used to find the length of very small objects like nails, the teeth of animals, and even small foods like sausages and vegetables. The Olby continued to be used until The pharaoh Sneferu declared it completely useless, since it could only be used to measure very, very small things. Today the that known Olby stick resides in the Cairo Egyptology Laboratory in Egypt. It remains relatively unexamined because it is so rarely thought of in today's world.
