Luctaren

Luctaren (LUC-tuh-ren)

A parent who has experienced the death of their child. The word is derived from Latin: luctus (grief, mourning) + parens (parent).

Why It Matters:
There’s no single word in English to describe a grieving parent. Luctaren fills that void with dignity, giving language to an identity too often left unspoken.

• The support group is open to all luctarens, regardless of when or how their child passed.
• There’s no word in English for us, so we made one: luctaren.
