doomer

Used by the peak oil community to refer to those who believe that the end of the oil age will also mean the end of human society.

I'm a doomer 'cos wind and nuclear will never cut it, and hydrogen's a pipe dream.

Doomerosity 

A scale used in the peak oil peaknik community to relate the level of global impact an individual expects from the peak in global oil production.

Ranges from 0 (peak oil is just a big hoax) to 6 (welcome to the stone age). 3 is a global catastrophe from which modern society will eventually recover.

My doomerosity is currently at 2, maybe 3. I used to be more of a doomer but that was just my apocophile tendencies getting the better of me.

Apocophilia 

An attraction to, or taking pleasure in, end-of-society scenarios, such as global nuclear war, or worst-case peak-oil or global-warming.

Often leads to what others would regard as a 'pessimistic' world view, however Apocophiliacs often identify with an 'up-side' to the total destruction of mostly everything. Proof of irrationality can often be found in a belief that they will survive the impending apocolyse themselves.

I used to hang at peakoil.com, but the place is swamped with apocophilic doomers.

I'm really worried about global warming, but sometimes I worry that I might just have a tendency for apocophilia.
