They scoff at modern conveniences, insisting that true mastery comes from suffering in the terminal. They write exclusively in C, run Emacs/Vim with no plugins because man > machine, and open every terminal session with htop “just to check things are fine.” Their Makefiles are legendary, hundreds of lines of cryptic rules they barely remember but proudly flaunt as proof of skill. Publicly, they declare things like “Java is for interns,” while secretly automating a few tasks in Python. Arch Linux (btw) runs on their battered ThinkPad, adorned with stickers no one can read.
