A bastard, usually left by men who have been called to war and died. The wives would then later learn that they are pregnant; a souvenir by their dead husbands.
Mary was distraught to learn that her husband had been killed by an onslaught of Germans. She was even more distraught to learn that before going to war he had left her a souvenir of a bastard unborn baby.
