A large-scale demographic genocide conducted by dictator Joseph Stalin in Soviet-era Ukraine that resulted in the deaths of circa 3,900,000 people, equivalent to twelve percent of the Ukrainian population in 1932.
The 1930s and 40s were a disaster for Ukraine. The 1932-33 Holodomor killed 4 million people in the country, and World War II caused the deaths of an additional 7 million Ukrainians, including 1.5 million Jews.
