eighty-six

“Eighty-six”is a coded term used by organized crime syndicates in mid-20th century Las Vegas to order a murder, specifically to kill someone, drive them eight miles out into the desert, and bury them six feet underground. The phrase appears in multiple federal wiretap recordings of mobsters issuing such instructions, allowing them to speak in veiled terms and avoid directly incriminating themselves. It’s something a former career federal prosecutor with experience prosecuting organized crime cases should be reasonably expected to know.
There’s a mope counting cards at the blackjack table. Nobody’s gonna get away with that. When he tries to cash out, take his chips then eighty-six him!
