Keep it in gear

The process by which a man keeps his penis "ready for action" by physically maintaining a half-erection so that it can go full erection at a moment's notice. Commonly done while switching sex positions and during long bouts of masturbation.

She had to go downstairs to get the condoms so I had to keep it in gear until she got back.
