Saptak means "gamut" or "the series of eight notes" of Indian classical music. Saptak comprises the 'Sapta Svaras', i.e. the seven notes and they are Sadja (Sa), Ṛisabha (Re), Gandhara (Ga), Madhyama (Ma), Panchama (Pa), Dhaivat (Dha), Nisada (Ni), Sadja (Sa).
The world’s longest Hindustani music festival, Saptak, was held online this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Featuring 34 concerts, spread over 13 days, the festival stood out for its laidback approach to the visuals. Saptak was established by late tabla maestro Pt Nandan Mehta, and his sitar playing wife Vidushi Manju Mehta, and is held throughout Ahmedabad and other cities in Gujarat.
