A group of people, lead by Richard Stallman, who think that all programs should be given to them for free. They created a license, GPL, that isn't compatible with itself, and insist on calling Linux GNU\Linux. Instead of calling open source programs 'Open Source' they call them 'Free', regardless of weither or not it is free.

GNU wrote the GPL, but I think that the BSD license is much better.
