The Loser Test
A social tactic where a guy uses his friend (usually someone he sees as being in the same league as himself) as bait to test a girl’s interest before risking rejection personally.
He’ll say something like “My friend likes you” and study her reaction:
If she responds positively, he learns she’s open to guys at their level and can safely make his own move.
If she reacts negatively, the friend absorbs all the embarrassment while the tester keeps plausible deniability.
