When a video game character is really cheap, does copious amounts of damage, is usually decent on the tier lists and n00b-friendly (meaning you can just push the same button over and over again and win). E.g. Meta Knight in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Noel Vermillion in BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger.

vanilla 

The old-school version of a video game. E.g. the original Street Fighter instead of Super Street Fighter 4

I'm really stoked about Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but I'd rather play the vanilla for now.

A person who picks only top tier characters in a fighting game.

If you pick Yun in 3rd Strike only because he's top tier, you are a tier-whore.
