hyperventilating

You breathe without thinking because your body does it for you automatically. But things can change your breathing pattern and make you feel short of breath, anxious, or ready to faint. When this happens, it’s called hyperventilation, or overbreathing.

That’s when you inhale much deeper and take much faster breaths than normal. This deep, quick breathing can change what’s in your blood. Normally, you breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. But when you hyperventilate, the carbon dioxide levels in your bloodstream drop too low. You’ll notice it right away because you’ll start to feel sick.

Anger

Anger triggers the body’s ‘fight or flight’ response. Other emotions that trigger this response include fear, excitement and anxiety. The adrenal glands flood the body with stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. The brain shunts blood away from the gut and towards the muscles, in preparation for physical exertion. Heart rate, blood pressure and respiration increase, the body temperature rises and the skin perspires. The mind is sharpened and focused.

Combat

Combat (French for fight) is a purposeful violent conflict meant to weaken, establish dominance over, or kill the opposition, or to drive the opposition away from a location where it is not wanted or needed.

Combat is typically between opposing military forces in warfare. Combat violence can be unilateral, whereas fighting implies at least a defensive reaction. A large-scale fight is known as a battle. A verbal fight is commonly known as an argument. Combat effectiveness, in the strategic field, requires combat readiness. In military areas, the term is applied also to personnel, that has to receive proper training and be qualified to carry out combat operations in the unit to which they are assigned.

Ego

When Mayor Booker was at Stanford University, he would post two or three things on a whiteboard in his dorm room, and that would be his focus. Nothing, he told the FOCUS 100 Symposium, would stop him from focusing on it. It is this kind of focus and determination that helps him run an entire city and the tech startup #WayWire at the same time Mayor Booker advises that you need to feel a core sense of purpose in whatever it is you do in order to succeed. Blocking out distracting factors like ego, vanity, or anything else, will serve to boost your getting there quicker.
.When things distract you—and the biggest distraction is often ego, vanity—centrality of focus to me has been one of the best things I’ve learned in my life.”
