This slang mostly common in Pakistan. This is mostly attributed to the people who were once arrested by Pakistan's establishment for being anti-state who later became pro-state after release.

Free software does NOT mean that you do not have to pay to get it. Free software is a matter of freedom, not price. In order for software to be free, users must be able to run, copy, distribute (with a fee or without a fee), study, change and improve the software.
Do not confuse free software with open source software. Although they are very similar, the philosophy behind them is different. Free software is about ethics and open source software is about being practical.

It's pretty amazing that so many people illegally use proprietary software as if it was free software. Why don't they just use free software and avoid legal issues?

Beautiful people. Software crackers are those that in most cases produce cracks, keygens and patches for the latest and greatest proprietary software. They understand the risks and are aware they break the law, but they do so for the greater good, meaning programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office are available for torrent. One should always pay for software if given the chance, but... who's got £150+ for a digital office suite?
Software crackers mean that i can get all the software i need for my school coursework without having to fork out money i can't afford to do so.

Proprietary software is software that you are not free to use, copy, modify, and study as you like. It's a form of abuse of users, which sucks and makes people depressed; it gives suits power over creatives.
