1. A stick that is placed in the middle of a pile of kindling wood in order to entice the flame up and thus more quickly inflame the pile. This is used in wilderness camping when kindling may be somewhat damp. A dry Pig-Pole is placed standing in the middle of the kindling to more easily draw the flame up.

2. (by Extension) Any word, phrase, behavior, or action used to inflame a dangerous situation.
1. The kindling was just not burning well till we added the Pig-Pole. Soon our fire became warm and cozy.

2. Be careful. the crowd is unruly, so don't be a Pig-Pole and incite a riot.
