All ethnicities and nationalities reside within these giant cities, as these are cultural, cosmopolitan areas where they all meet. This is the region that won the Civil War, even though not all of these states existed at the time.
The North also has a much stronger economy, based on both manufacturing and "clean" industries (pharmaceuticals/software), insurance and banking companies, and a little bit of agriculture.
As animosity still remains from the American Civil War, a lot of Southerners despise Northerners, calling them "damyankees", and some in the southern Midwest they call "traitors", for being pro-Union and much less into the redneck culture. The North has always been a successful, prosperous region with diverse people, places, industries, and forms of entertainment. The North continues to thrive and grow today as well.
