A designator referring to a specific religion practiced by a specific group of originally semitic peoples. An accurate definition beyond this point is impossible because of the myriad connotations, both positive and negative, which this word has. Elaborate definitions simply fall into racist rant, ignorant generalizations, stereotypes, and transparent envy.
Too many people would have you believe that generosity is foreign to Jews.

1. (Noun) A people group originating from Israel.
Commonly used by emoes and high school kids as a word that is meant to be an insult. Often used because they've never met a Jewish person in their life or are otherwise ignorant to the Jews in their life, are stupid and can't come up with a better word, or are simply a bunch of intolerant pricks who just want someone to fight against.
"That's such a jew trick"

"Don't be such a jew and give me your lunch"

1. noun. a person who is descended from a jew (mother or father, does not matter, apparently a lot of jews don't even know this)
2. noun. a person who practices judaism
3. noun. a person who considers themselves a 'member of the tribe' (the 12 tribes, all desdended from Abraham). there are people who consider themselves ethnically, socially, and/or culturally jewish though they do not practice judaism. Jews refer to non-jews as 'gentiles.'

4. verb. to cheat someone, to get someone down on their price, to be stingy
No one in our family actually practices judaism, though we are aware of our roots and celebrate several jewish holidays, Hannukah, purim, etc.. sort of like a lot of christians celebrate christmas but don't go to church....

Jews are people who are often classified by non-Jews as "chosen." The latter group then starts hatin Jews for that designation.

According to Jewish law: If you mom is Jewish you are Jewish, even if you dont practice the Jewish religion/practice a different religion(that's why it has an ethnic aspect to it)

Judaism is an orthopractic religion, which means certain deeds/actions speak louder than someone's belief (in J.C. for example). That is why, while many Jews can be athesit, they will still celebrate holidays like Hannukah, Passover, Rosh Hashana etc...cause they are fun and have also become part of the culture.

If you want to become Jewish, you need to undergo orthodox conversion, and keep all the Jewish laws as described in the Jewish holy book, the Torah.

Not all Jews are Israelis, and not all Israelis are Jews. Nevertheless, Jews can become Israeli citizens very easily.

okay let's clear this up.
not all jews are tight with their money.
not all jews have enormous noses.
not all jews have frizzy hair.

jews do not necessarily practise judaism as a religion, but someone who is born jewish can never stop being jewish. even if one decides to diassociate themself with the faith or the people they are still considered to be a jew.
this is largely because as well as being a religious group, the jewish people are also an ethnic and cultural group.
in most denominations, judaism is inherited through the mother and many people are jewish without even realising as it can be inherited by an unbroken line of matrineal descent. a person would still be considered jewish if their mother was a jew but their father was not.

i'm 16 and i am jewish. but i don't have a big nose. it just looks a little odd haha!
my hair is dark dark brown and curly and my eyes are brown.
stereotypical jewish features, but not always true to all jews.

i'm not very religious at all, in fact i was raised agnostic and none of my family practise the religion at all. however i do try to observe kosher (but i'm vegetarian so it's very easy), and i have read the tanakh.
only the women and children on my mother's side of the family are jewish.

the only way a jew would be cease to be jewish any longer would be to claim that jesus is their saviour. anyone who worships jesus as the messiah is not a jew and will be discounted from the jewish people.
matrineal descent: my mother's mother's mother's mother's mother's mother was jewish. it is consistent line of females who pass the faith onto their children.

Hitler’s criteria for exterminating Jews was any individual who had at least one grandparent who was a Jew. Using that definition, practicing Christians who had no idea that they had a Jewish ancestor could be killed for being Jewish.

I don’t know if I would say that Judaism is a race onto itself, but I would say it is a nationality. Jews as such originated in Judea and were dispersed through out the world, often not by choice. Thorugh out this dispersment they kept some basic customs and beliefs.

It silly to say that Ethiopian Jews are Jewish only because of their religion, and can not compare to real Jews such as the Ashkenazi Jews. That is a misconception. Ethiopian Jews predate Ashkenazi Jews, and claim to jewish history dating back to Moses.
There are two major diferences between the spharadi jews and the ashkenazi jews. Spharadi Jews are either middle eastern or medeteranianJews. Ashkenazi jews are eastern european Jews.
the second diference is how they pray.
Growning up a major question that kept poping up was always is judaism a religion or a nationality. I am very jewish and have been all of my 47 years, but in all those years I can not say that I have practiced an relgious rituals even though I know many of them.
The word Spharad in Hebrew means Spain. Ashkenazi Jews are mostly jews who lived in a predominantly christian society and pray fairly loudly and have ver little body movement. Spharadi Jews lived in countries like Spain where they were forced to convert to christianity pray under thier breath, or in the middle east and have similar body movements to arabs where prayer involves the body.
