(n) A word played in a word game (ie: Scrabble) that the player knows is not a valid word by the rules of the game but hopes to pass off as valid in order to score points.

I didn't have any good letters, so I had to just play a clern and hope to get away with it.

Slang form of the word clown; synonymous with clown. Often used by a collective of haunt actors who favor Shattered FX masks and adopt language mispronunciations while in character, which includes substituting the ‘err’ sound where ‘ahh’ or ‘oh’ would otherwise appear. Example: “err merr gerd” as opposed to “oh my god.”

We went to the circus and visited the clern tent. Err merr gerd the clerns were funny.
