The preferred linguistic term for an abbreviation or acronym used in chatting, texting, message boards and the like.

Chacronym examples: BRB (Be Right Back), FWIW (For What It's Worth), THX (Thanks).

To me, BRB is a few nonsensical letters, evidently this chacronym means 'Be Right Back'.

chatcronym 

An abbreviation based on capitalizing the first letters of each word, acronym-style, in phrases commonly used in text messaging or "chat-speak." LOL, or "laughing out loud," is a chatcronym. As is WTF, "What the fuck!"

BRB ("Be right back"),FYI, THX ("Thanks"), and the inimitable and highly obnoxious ROFLMAO ("Rolling on the floor laughing my ass off")(which is, not coincidentally, onomatopoetically related to vomiting). Chatcronyms are to modern teen-tech communication what grunts are to a James Brown vocal: natural, somewhat crass, unselfconscious, and eminently practical. (He was, after all, a "sex machine").

crapronym 

an acronym (series of letters that represents multiple words that are frequently used together) that ignores a word or uses a letter other than the first in a word, so that it may sound better. A crapronym may also use a commonly ignored word such an article.

Acronym: nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) - uses every word
Crapronym: selection of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) - uses both "e" and "x" from "exponential' and ignores "enrichment"

Acronym typically used in chat rooms or instant messanger conversations to both shorten the amount to be typed and to convey emotion. Sometimes used by people in face to face conversation, resulting in them appearing to be complete idiots (ie a person saying lol instead of actually laughing)

lol: laughing out loud
omg: oh my god/gosh
stfu: shut the f*ck up

chacrona 

A plant (Psychotria viridis) whose leaves, together with the vine mariri, are used in the preparation of the entheogenic tea called Hoasca by traditional indigenous of the Amazon in shamanic rituals and as a sacrament by some religious denominations.

Bot. Tree that belongs to the Gentianales order, Rubiaceae family, Psychotria genus, Psychotria viridis species. Native to the Amazon region, the chacrona has in the leaves is the psychoactive alkaloid N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT).

Another popular name: Queen.
