Sherbrooke

The largest city in Québec’s Eastern Townships, about 60 mi/100km east of Montréal and 30 mi/50 km northwest of Québec’s border with Vermont and New Hampshire.

Sherbrooke is known among many New Englanders as the closest city where one can legally buy codeine at the pharmacy without a prescription (Google “Tylenol 1” and “AC&C” for more information). Also, since Québec’s drinking age is 18, many northern New England youth frequent Sherbrooke’s pubs and clubs.

The Eastern Townships are similar in topography to nearby New Hampshire and Vermont and, by Québec standards, a fairly large Anglophone (English-speaking) community, many of whom trace their ancestry to New England loyalists who fled north after the American Revolution.

Sherbrooke resembles a large, northern New England city, albeit with a French flair.

Sherbrooke is also the name of a major street in Montréal.

showbroke

When you've been bingeing out on a show on Netflix for awhile, and you run out of episodes left to watch, and you get that lame feeling of "Damn, I don't wanna watch any of that other crap! What the hell am I gonna do now?" This feeling is called being showbroke.

(Don't worry, you'll find something else, I promise)

When I finished the last episode of Orange Is the New Black on Netflix, I couldn't even think of watching anything else, it was like my life was crumbling under a huge wave of depression, I was completely showbroken... So, left with no more episodes to watch, I suddenly realized that I now had to actually get up out of bed, and put some clothes on, and go back to that thing that we all do, and have to deal with everyday... what's it called again? Oh yeah, LIFE!"

Shagbrooke 

An indescribable act white people use to initiate others into their fold. Those who have experienced it find it extremely difficult to put into words. Once experienced you gain a greater sense of self and peace. The act is usually started when a white person yells "SHAGBROOKE!!" It is helpful to keep your dominant hand in your pocket while shagbrooking is occuring. Do not fight it as it will only make things worse. It will all be over soon enough and you'll be happy you were shagbrooked. Also make sure to have a towel nearby and ready to use.

Guy "Man, I got shagbrooke today!"
Guy 2 "Are you okay? What is Shagbrooking?"
Guy "Yeah, I feel so enlightened and empowered. I can take on anything now! You Will just have to experience it for yourself."
Guy 2 "Why are you all sticky? That's the weirdest smell..."
Guy "I forgot a towel."

Sherbrooke

A surname of Québécois origin derived from "scīr" (meaning "bright" or "shire") and "brōc" (meaning "brook" or "stream"), with the silent "-e" suffix indicating that it is a surname.

When researching my family tree, I discovered that my great-grandfather's surname was Sherbrooke, linking us to the beautiful streams of Québec.
