Stemming from the famously liberal and famously "Catholic" Kennedy family.A Kennedy Catholic is an individual who belongs to the Roman Catholic Church but observes the religion's practices as a cultural tradition rather than a spiritual exercise. Kennedy Catholics may not fully understand the theology that informs the religion's rituals, or may reject part or most of the theology. It is a term generally synonymous with Cafeteria Catholic
Cecila: So what did you think of that guy that took you out last weekend?

Mary Catherine: He seems nice but when we got onto the subject of our Catholic faith he said that it's more of tradition to him that an actual faith. He's more of a Kennedy Catholic.
