"Hicklib", being a combination of "hick" and "liberal", and is used to refer to liberals that live in rural areas of the
United States, namely the Southeast. Hicklibs exist for two reasons, a historical one and a practical one.
Historically, Jeffersonianism, an Egalitarian, Agrarian, Democratic ideology was most prevalent in the South among farmers during 1790s to 1820s. While a long gone ideology, it still lingers in modern day Southern Republican ideology. The most important
effect of Jeffersonian thought is Anti-Elitism, which fuels the "folksy" kind of class resentment parroted by hicklibs, and more recently suburbanite
Republicans.
Practically, hicklibs exist because rural areas shelter
White people from the realities of living in a multiracial environment and how that affects suburban and urban populations. They don't understand why borders need to exist because they've never interacted with an immigrant before. If they are Appalachian, they are probably on government assistance too.
