This word is derived from a combination of three German words "Gott" (god) "Da" (there) "Mit" (with), or "God be With It"
It is similar to the arabic statement of blessing "Allah Haffiz" in which a person who might be taking a trip is told by his friend: "Allah Haffiz" or "Gott damitt".
