A form of music in which a person swiftly rhymes poetry, over a beat. A subgenre of pop music. Rap is mostly influenced by hip-hop or hip hop. And this is to all the people who can't stand rap because they've never actually heard real rap:

Though talent IS needed to make rap, all of you racists just listen to a little bit of gangsta rap (i.e. G-Unit, N.W.A.) and assume that rap is all about gats, hoes, money, pimps, and gangstas! Then the rapper has to sit down for a long ass time, and think as hard as they can, and put his thoughts down on paper as a rhyming poem. Then once the rapper has made his lyrics, he has to find that best beat for the flow of the song. Then he goes and raps out the lyrics. He is basically talking very quickly, nonstop (nonstop rapping is the correct, "real" way of rapping, which means he has to rap without stoping for about 3-5 lines), in the rhythm of the beat. Also while rapping, he needs to stress every other syllable, but he can't go too fast or else he will go faster than the beat and then the song will be ruined. Listen to any rap song by a really talented rapper. Every line will stop on the end of the beat. So once all this has been done, the song if recorded and fine-tuned. And this has to be done for every song, on every album...And no it's NOT easy. AND YOU ASSHOLES SAY THAT RAPPERS JUST TALK, AND THEY HAVE NO TALENT AT ALL. BITCHES. A decaying genre of music which thrives on the most animalistic forms of human behavior, such as sex, violence, etc. It was dominant in the mainstream for the past few years, however its influence seems to be declining, in favor of more popular rock and pop bands. In an attempt to remain at the top of the market, many rap acts have taken elements from "rock", especially (but not limited to) clothing, instruments, etc.

Rap fans claim that it’s a form of poetry but they are dead wrong. Poetry is poetry, rap is garbage. Most fans also claim that rap has good meaning but they again are wrong, and frankly I don’t give a shit about how rap used to be because we are in the 2008 now kiddies. NO ONE seems to have noticed that rap stands for Rhythm and Poetry like R'n'B stands for rhythm and blues like 'the who' not that crap that they abuse the termanology with nowadays. the main reason i dont like rap is they do what everyone else does but in a more blatant way and thats STEAL MUSIC/IDEAS but they steal whole songs/melodies. and 90% of posters seem to dislike it so i will stand up for it and say yeh i dont really like most of it but to say ne think is 100% shit is just narrow minded and stupid. i and yes i do like some rap (immortal tehnique) but the main reason is that i am a drummer and a musician and in rap they use alot of samples and mutilate the organic sounds , yah this is just evoloution of music but personally I think its treading on your roots a bit. so thats why i like hip hopbecause it is based in a lot more funky way and is less repetitive so nice one to the boys from j5 jurassic 5 and if you think rap is all negative check out de la soul and you all know three is the magic number and lets face it who doesnt like that song, so there you do like some rap.
