(n) The scientific name for a leaf that has been separated from a branch by unnatural forces. It is important to differentiate between natural and unnatural forces. If a hurricane blows leaves off branches, they remain leaves. If humans or animals pull a leaf off a tree, it becomes a zootholomy.

zoothanasia 

The action of a zoo putting down a perfectly healthy animal because they have become "surplus". Examples of this are Marius the Giraffe and the nine lion cubs a zoo in Sweden admitted to euthanizing. Usually a cowardly act put forth by zoos which probably shouldn't be allowed to run in the first place.

That zoo performs zoothanasia.
