Timesuck

Share definition Flag
Timesuck is the name of a podcast hosted by comic Dan Cummins who does an irreverent and well-researched deep-dive on one listener-suggested subject every Monday on anything that’s interesting. Past topics include: The Golden State Killer, Spartacus, Area 51, The Knights Templar, the Jim Jones Cult, Doc Holliday, Joan of Arc, Slenderman, the Salem Witch Trials, and the Bermuda Triangle. Episode is also full of inside jokes, crazy characters, and a respectable amount of profanity.
On Monday’s I always suck hard when the Master Suckers drops a new Timesuck.

Something that takes up a lot of time and produces few or no tangible results. Usually a website.

In general, a waste of time.

TV Tropes Timesink

Share definition Flag
An area of the internet where time stops, coincidentally overlapping with the site TV Tropes.

Similar to a wikicoma.
Somebody mentioned this thing called "phlebotinum;" next thing I knew, I was digging myself out of the TV Tropes timesink six hours later.

Anything which takes up a lot of your time. I can be homework, a diy project, a tv show, or even a ridiculously long nap. It can be enjoyable, or even productive, but it requiers sinking a lot of time into it... therefore timesink.
I decided to start baking my own bread... didn't realise it was such a timesink.

Mad Men is great, but it is such a timesink.

The void that gets created by engaging in an activity that seems like it will be short but ends up taking up huge amounts of time. Like watching video on YouTube, or browsing definitions on Urban Dictionary, or playing Halo 3 on Xbox
Tim: I am so tired, last night I was going to bed and grabbed my laptop to check email. Before I knew it I fell into a timesuck on YouTube and it was 2 am.

Jeff: yeah, that happened to me last week browsing Urban Dictionary

Striver

Share definition Flag
The striver is an interesting phenomenon that is seen across college campuses. In essence, the striver is an over-achiever who comes from a working or middle class family. He may be an immigrant. He may have been a slacker in HS who was "born again" into an academic wunderkind. Or he may just be an over-achiever who is keeping at it.

The striver is willing to sacrifice his social life at the expense of Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. The striver is the guy who stays at the library long after you are gone. The striver is the guy who takes 30 credits/semester and considers anything below an A/4.0 failure. The striver doesn't work on campus, he is too busy finding ways to pad his resume instead of working retail or workstudy. The striver lets his grades pay his education by applying to ten scholarships a year.

The striver is a future Soros/Fullbright/Rhodes/Gates/Marshall/etc. fellow. The striver lives to study. For the striver, their fun comes from the rewards they expect to receive in return for their diligence. Be it Law School, B-School, academia, or politics. The striver seeks to find the American Dream through academic success.
Anthony was a striver. He transfered from a TTT to an IVY and graduated in 2 years. He studied his ass off and went to Penn Law. He got a Biglaw offer. But lost it all because of an unmoderated mesasgeboard.
