A term used to refer to the video game Mass Effect, a sci-fi role playing game from developer Bioware for the Xbox 360 released on November 20th, 2007.

The game also allows the user, who plays as Commander Shepherd - to have sexual relationships with some of his or her shipmates which lends itself to the sexual reference and the ease with which "effect" can be changed to "erect"

When someone sends a NSFW message in a group chat, it causes "mass erections". It's basically a lot of people getting erections at the same time due to the NSFW message/post.
