Used to describe any setting or character in a game, film, series, book, or other concept that is unnecessarily both grim and dark. Usually produced by the inexperienced or immature in an attempt to appear deep or satirical, grimdark settings or grimdark characters are a pale simplification of the harshness of the world, and tend to utilize a gratuitous amount of gore, dark clothing, juvenile metaphor, and ]autistic] notions of 'badass'.

It's so badass, there's this guy with an eyepatch and it can see the darkness in your soul so he hunts down these demons in this post-apocalyptic city but he's also a demon and he only says stuff like, 'I wish I'd never been born!' and shit like that and it rains aborted fetuses every night and he rides a velociraptor with milky nipples an-"

"Dude, slow down and breathe, your story is dripping with grimdarkness."

"-Giant spaceship that's just full of bleeding skulls and it just blows up the entire moon and blocks out the sky so it's darker than dark like the abyss of my heart and-"

abandonware

n. software that is no longer sold or supported by the original publisher / developer, often found as free downloads on the internet because it cannot be obtained elsewhere. Not legal, but often seen as morally acceptable because the company that made it is no longer selling the title, nor releasing it as freeware, therefore abandonware is "keeping the game alive", so to speak.
Doom II is not abandonware because id still sells it, while The Incredible Machine is not sold, therefore is abandonware.
