a faux fan is a wannabe who claims to listen to a certain type of music but really knows nothing about said type of music, usually to fit in with a crowd or conversation.
Guy 1: "Hey guys, have you heard that new Green Day album? It rocks!"
Guy 2: "Yeah man, it wasn't as good as American Idiot but it was still pretty great"
Guy 3: "Yeah, Green Day rocks!"
Guy 1: "Oh yeah, which song's your favorite?"
Guy 3: "Well, uhh... I don't know..."
Guy 2: "Wow, what a faux-fan"
Guy 2: "Yeah man, it wasn't as good as American Idiot but it was still pretty great"
Guy 3: "Yeah, Green Day rocks!"
Guy 1: "Oh yeah, which song's your favorite?"
Guy 3: "Well, uhh... I don't know..."
