When you type out the wrong emoticon in texting, I.M., or chat.

"sorry your dog died :)"
"why does that make you happy?"
"oh. I'm emotitarded! I mean that as a sad face! :("

A person who does not have the talent or intuition to use emoticons in e-mail or text messages.

i.e. Someone who has to ask, "How do you make that smiley face?" Response: "Are you emotitarded or what?"

A type of person who tries to hard to use emoticons and/or makes up an emoticon that is irrelevant to even looking like a facial expression.
