drifter

A person, with no real place to call their home. They wander from place to place, sometimes looking for something. Sometimes becuase its the only way to get away from everything that made them become drifters in the first place. We all have our reasons for it.

Drifters move from place to place...once their problems catch up to them, or they've had what fun they can get out of the place they are at, they move on again. They are but simple wanderers, for whatever reasons they have to be one.

Some consider them bottem feeders, just wasting everything from everyone else. Hobo's are often considered drifters. They may be homeless, but hobo's can't get around, or rely on themselves, thus they go to homeless shelters. A drifter may not have a home, but they are self reliant. They live alone, and have to rely only on themselves.

Only when they find a reason to stay somewhere, will they no longer be a drifter.
"Maybe I'll just disappear again. Too many people, and too many problems. And I can't do anything to help."

Windy City Drifter

A person who constantly swerves from left to right while slowly walking on the sidewalk. This behavior often results from a preoccupation with a cell phone, gaping at skyscrapers, or a general lack of awareness.

Windy City Drifters are commonly encountered in crowded areas of Chicago and block the path of walking pedestrians. They have the greatest impact on foot traffic during rush hour but are an annoyance at all times of the day.
It took forever to walk from the train to the office today. There were windy city drifters everywhere. I felt like punchin' someone in the back of the head.

They typically drift across the side walk and cutoff or collide with other people on the side walk. Social Drifter

A social drifter is generally someone who travels between different social groups from year to year, never growing attatched to one person or group of people. Every person has their own reason for being a social drifter; some do it because they like to avoid problems, others because they have attatchment issues.

Social drifters never seem to have the same friends for more than a year, nor do they stay within a stereotype for very long either. These people are often confused for a bottom feeder or social climber, but for the most part are nothing close to those. They simply drift in and out of people's lives so that for at least a while they can find friends, however temporary they might be.
Every year I see that kid with a different group of friends. He must be a social drifter, always changing his surroundings.
