When a term is utilized by two or more groups with similar yet different definitions, causing confusion for all parties.
Intersecting Terminology occurs when a term is utilized by different groups with a similar purpose but an entirely different meaning. Example: A company uses the term "Launch," along with a projected and actual date. Several departments within the company have a different definition of the term, which causes confusion, finger pointing and frustration throughout the organization. Launch term definition examples: Marketing: Press Release indicates Launch; Regulatory: FDA Approves drug product indicates Launch; Operations: Product manufactured and ready to ship; Warehouse: Product out the door; Finance: Money received for new drug product
