One of the most dangerous jobs in the United States Coast Guard. One must go through extensive training to become a Surfman. One must first qualify for Coxswain and Heavy Weather Coxswain before even attempting to qualify for Surfman.

Surfmen usually man 47-foot life saving boats and are manned at MLS stations for Search and Rescue missions in severe weather and/or sea conditions.
Fisherman #1: "We are so screwed. Our ship is capsized and we're in 30 foot waves!"
Fisherman #2: "Here comes a Coast Guard surfman to save our asses!"

When lives are in danger and the shit hits the fan, who do they call? The surfman!
