Short for "Retroactive Commentary," Retcom is derived from retcon, or "retroactive continuity." Retcom refers to any situation where a movie, book, or other form of entertainment was initially made purely for entertainment purposes, and social commentary has since been added by the producers or audience.
Critical review and some of Romero's later statements aside, Night of the Living Dead wasn't meant to have any sort of major commentary on race relations - it just happened that the friend Romero picked to play Ben was black, it wasn't in the script. It's pure retcom.

Get the Retcom mug.A form of wizard or sorceress who uses direct influence magic, a form of magic that uses the imagination to produce a desired effect. The reason for the term retro is that the limits of your powers often coincide with past experiences and memories, which in turn, forms a clear picture of a desired effect into your mind, and then into reality. Therefore Retromancers grow stronger with age and wisdom rather than trained use of their abilities.

Get the Retromantic mug.During the early '80s while I was traveling on the east coast, North Carolina to be specific, I was watching an early morning talk show. The host looking dapper in his 3 piece suit interviewing a guest said in part during the course of their conversation, " yes, I "recomember" way back when... at which point the guest interrupted him and said, "you mean you remember when..." the host restated the word and once again the guest corrected him an stated "there are two words here, remember and recollect..." At which time the host said, "look you remember and recollect all you want, I recomember!" the word has been part of my vocabulary ever since.
