You are making what you think is a valid argument. You get most of the way through it before realizing that you just set yourself up for ridicule.

Beth stopped short as she was making her point, suddenly realizing that she was way off base and Nelson would call her on it. It was clearly a rebuttalhead situation.

A rebuttal as the act of rebutting especially in a legal suit; also : argument or proof that rebuts.

During the argument I rebuttaled that it was the randomness of the method used to obtain the information at the time in question.
