The study of the origin of words which came into origin on the internet e.g. lol zomg.

Can also be applied to the backstory of internet memes. Notoriously inexact.

Lucy: "What's the whole Over 9000! thing about?"

Trilby: "It came from the chans."

Lucy: "Hooray for internetymology".
