Unlike the mythical "wage gap," the cage gap refers to the fact that males are sentenced to roughly 60% longer sentences than females for the same crimes. All things being equal, males receive more harsh penalties for crimes than females. Cage Gap is the term used to reference the gender inequalities that exist in the US criminal justice system.
