A clever reforming of the words crafty bastard. Brian Brushwood, host of Revision3's internet show - Scam School, commonly uses the phrase. He could have been the creator, or one of the people to make it mainstream.

saying that someone is so obviously clever, you're jealous.

friend 1: hey, how the hell did you answer all those history questions? i can't find them in the book anywhere!

friend 2: interwebs.

friend 1: you bafty crastard.
