Aperture Science

Please note that this may include spoilers for the games Portal and/or Portal 2.

Aperture Science is a scientific research company founded by Cave Johnson. It was once called "Aperture Fixtures" but then named "Aperture Science Innovators" to make the shower company more hygienic. The company was actually focused more on science. Long story short, In 1998, the robot, GLaDOS, was turned on during the holiday, "Bring your daughter to work day". Unfortunately, GLaDOS became self-aware and filled the Enrichment Centre with neurotoxin, killing the scientists. Aperture Science was closed and turned into testing area, run by GLaDOS.

Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center

In the portal games the Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center is a large area in the Aperture Science facility in which many main test chambers are located, and where most of the testing involving portal guns and such takes place. Chell wakes up here in the first portal game.
“Hello, and, again, welcome to the Aperture Science Computer-Aided Enrichment Center. We hope your brief detention in the Relaxation Vault has been a pleasant one.

Your specimen has been processed and we are now ready to begin the test proper. Before we start, however, keep in mind that although fun and learning are the primary goals of all Enrichment Center activities, serious injuries may occur.

For your own safety, and the safety of others, please refrain from touching bzzzzzt

British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”

Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.

Pee Calculus

When you have to pee in a movie but don’t want to miss anything, and must do the following mental equation: will the amount I have to pee cause enough discomfort to diminish my attention capacity for the remainder of the movie to an extent which is greater than the amount of the movie I would miss by making a mad dash to the restroom.
I saw Satantango last night, wonderful film but by the 5th hour I had to start doing pee calculus.
