If it reeks, it speaks

A maxim for leadership, integrity, and politics. It states that when a situation, policy or public figure "smells fishy" metaphorically due to lack of honesty or transparency, the truth is beginning to reveal itself. The "reek" (the intuitive detection of deception) eventually "speaks' (becomes undeniable public knowledge), through the inevitable collapse of the lie.
Example: The politician's shifting story revealed something sinister (reek). Like the old saying goes: If it reeks, it speaks and the truth came out in the inquiry.
