Degen

Degen is old shorthand term for a Degenerate. Today, its main use is in the Cryptocurrency community to describe an individual who engages in risky, speculative buying and selling without doing any research.

It is also popular amongst gamblers who use the term to describe a card player, especially in Blackjack, who hits when they shouldn’t and holds when they should hit, therefore muddling the cards that the other players would have gotten.

The Casino Dealer has a 6 showing and the player in seat 1 has 17 and asks for another card. The card he gets is a King and he busts. The next player has a Queen showing so the King the first player got would have been the second players card. The other players will lose their minds and say, “Come on, you Degen, you stole my card. Why don’t you go play somewhere else.”
