1) A chemical element, poisonous and irritating gas of green-yellowish color.
2) Any chemical that releases (1) when dissolved in water.

1) He thought it was a funny idea to try to produce some chlorine at home. Lack of equipment? Risk of getting his lungs burnt out? Or occasionally die? Nah, it didn't stop him.
