CAPS LOCK

A key on the keyboard that tweenie girls, newbies and the mentally unstable insist on pressing and using for their entire forum post/IM/text message for reasons unknown.

Perhaps they think it looks cool, or maybe they can't do joined-up writing yet and write in block capitals.

It is the most annoying button in existence.

In fanfiction, or any writing really, when characters take a tone of voice that one would image to be outraged. The author therefore if forced to not only conclude the character's outburst with an exclamation point (or several) but also use caplock to make sure the character's fit is fittish enough.

In this scene, in which Harry is talking to some adult figure, most likely Remus Lupin or Professor McGonagall, he is being quite capslocky:

"Harry, I know you are upset about the Headmaster..."

"YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING!"

"Harry, honestly, you really--"

"I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU WON'T LEAVE ALONE TO WALLOW IN SELF-PITY BECAUSE ALL OF MY LOVED ONES ARE DEAD!!!!1 YOU DON'T KNOW ME!! DON'T EVEN TRY!"

"Harry--"

"DON'T HARRY ME!"

"Fine." ::walks away::

::Sobs:: "No one knows me anymore." ::Is depressed::

the button on a key pad that makes the letters typed after pressing it in capital letters. it can also be used to give the affect of angryness. OH FOR THE SAKE OF PETE I PUSHED THAT DAMN CAPS LOCK BUTTON AGAIN!

when kanye west blogs, he types in caps, and uses excessive exclamation points, like everything he says is THAT important.

caps lock

An aggressive, or excited attitude characterized by its loudness. The term originates from electronic communication. Sentences and words spelled with the Caps Lock button turned on --in other words, all upper-case-- is the modern written equivalent of shouting at someone. It usually signifies anger, or sometimes intense excitement.

Kelly looked at Lisa incredulously. For a moment she was speechless. "WHAT THE HELL?! HOW COME YOU CAN'T MAKE IT TO JAKE'S BIRTHDAY PARTY?!" Lisa, startled by Kelly's shouting, replied, "Why you gotta get all caps lock on me?!"
