indie

A kid that goes out of their way to make themselves feel superior to others, usually via music no one's ever heard of.

Once they've done that, the victim proceeds to listen to the band, which pisses off the indie and ceases all mention of the band, ever again. Forever.
Indie: *changes the song on their MP3* Oh I love this song! <---- (said very loudly.)
Kid: What song?
Indie: Oh... this song by Boy Kill Boy.
Kid: Who?
Indie: You haven't heard of Boy Kill Boy?!
Kid: Ummm... no? They're good?
Indie: ... you've never heard of Boy Kill Boy?!
Kid: No!
Indie: You'll like them, I'll send you one of their songs tonight over MSN.

(A few days later)

Kid: I bought Boy Kill Boy's album yesterday... I really like them!
Indie: Oh they're so fucking emo, get over it.

indie

1. a branch of more "underground" music resulting from nirvana bringing alternative into the spotlight.
2. used to describe the style of people who listen to this genre of music
Indie bands range anywhere from the more pop-like Death Cab For Cutie to the melancholy melodies of elliott smith.

"hey look at that indie kid." "how do you know he likes indie?" "look at him, he is wearing ripped up jeans, an old band that no one has heard of tee shirt, and he hasnt brushed his hair for months." "yea, hes indie alright."

Indi

"Indi" is short for "independent".
Like Indie but with a dropped "e" (who needs that darn "e" anyways‽)
Melon Rusk was in his garage building an indi space programme all year, I could've

done that but I was too busy playing my cousin's indi game to build my own space program. They both work so hard! I wanna go to the indi film festival for inspiration, before I start my indi project!

Corporations & large groups aren't indi!!!

indie

short for independant rock, indie can pretty much be defined by listning to a Modest Mouse album such as The Lonesome Crowded West or The Moon and Antarctica. Good News for People Who Love Bad News is still an indie album, just not as much.

contrary to what non-indies say, indie followers are not cults, and don't think their better that anyone else. If you told a true indie, such as myself, that Modest Mouse sucks, just like any indie, I would say, "Congradulations, I don't really give a shit what you think about my music."

Also see emo, but take out the not laid for 8 years and wanna-be goth part.

Indie

indie, short for independent, is a normally classified as a music genre. indie music can be anything; rap, folk, pop, punk, international, etc. but is normally labeled as obscure and alternative rock. indie bands are not signed to big record labels, hence the name independent.

but now, indie has become another stereotypical label like emo, goth, prep, and the list goes on. before indie gained popularity, it simply defined people who were independent and did what they want. 'indie people' dress how they want, wear their hair how the want, listen to what they want, and be their own person. 'indie people' are very unique and most are individualists. no two 'indies' are the same.

independent movies and films have also been given the label indie. independent movies are films that have not been made popular and are made outside of large theater companies. indie movies are made with smaller budgets and no corporate funding.
i can't describe indie music, movies, or stereotypes because they are all different.

Indie

A stupid fucking word some music critic coined to describe a band releasing an album via an independent record label. It's not a genre of music, anybody that knows music will tell you that. Indie is the new term for telling people you have sold out.
"Hey man check out these new indie genre bands: LCD Soundsystem and Arctic Monkeys, they will blow your mind" "These bands barely sound alike at all...One is electronic and the other is punk...How can you slot them into the same genre?" "Well you see, I am a fad whore. I must do it."
