A violent release of pent-up stress and/or frustration similar to an erupting volcano.

I have been on both sides of the volcano effect. It's not a pretty sight.

A sudden mundane and useless event that happens in a movie, like a sprinkler going off, that makes the watcher laugh hysterically, regardless of the director's intentions.

"That scene where the guy parked his car in that movie gave off one hell of a Sprinkler Effect. I was rolling on the floor."

Surviving an insurmountable amount in any video game.

Guy 1 : "Dude, you just got hit in the head with a predator missile!!!! And just walked away from it."

Guy 2 : "Dude....what predator missile?"

Guy 1 : "Thats was a Nico Effect ever I ever saw one."

piranha effect

The term for when a guy gets a girlfriend and immediately becomes desired by other girls. It is a sociological phenomenon involving social status, showing that the man is okay to be desired. He has been approved by a sociological microcosm as a man who would make a good mate. It also involves competition, the guy is almost a prize now, something that can be won in a competition.

Once one piranha bites, they all swarm.

Single guy walks down hallway, girls barely notice. Guy gets with hottie and now girls can't stay away.

Guy's Friend: Man, the piranha effect worked wonders for him!

Campanella Effect

The sense of almost boyish enthusiasm that comes over middle aged men when pursuing a hobby that requires expensive stuff and leaves non-hobbyists scratching their heads to figure out why it's so damned important. (Derived from Roy Campanella's observation about baseball: "You got to have a lot of little boy in you to play this game.")

When Jerry began talking about model railroading, it was easy to see the Campanella Effect in action.

When the sight and/or sound of a person vomiting causes others around him to vomit as well. A vomit domino effect.

The mere sight of Eddie vomiting on the water taxi caused a vomino effect among several other passengers.
