Also known as "manufactured drama," forced drama is the writing technique of creating contrived circumstances and events, or unnatural character behaviors, for the purpose of easily getting emotional reactions from the audience.
It is seen as a transparent, amateurish method of getting an audience emotionally invested in a work.
: In episode 19, why didn't Bob tell Dave about that deal? He tells Dave everything and has no reason to lie. Isn't that out of character?
: Yeah, it was so the writers could force drama by dragging out Dave's misunderstanding for the next couple episodes.

: Her crush dumped her, her puppy died, then she was struck by lightning in the middle of her parents' divorce after being told she has cancer. Am I expected to fall for this forced drama and actually feel sad?
